Delhi–Agra–Jaipur–Puskar–Udaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer–Bikaner–Mandawa–Delhi

Overview

Delhi – A capital of India can be divided into two parts (Old Delhi and New Delhi) because of its cultural importance.

Old Delhi – The 350-year-old walled city was built by Emperor Shah Jehan in 1648 as his capital. Opposite the fort are the black and white onion dome and minarets of the Jama Masjid, the most elegant mosque in India. Raj Ghat is worth a visit where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948.

New Delhi – The new capital designed by Sir Edward Lutyens. An interesting drive in the one passing through the impressive Rajpath from the World War I memorial arch, the India Gate towards the Presidential Palace. Visit Humayun’s Tomb built in 1565 AD, Safdarjung’s Tomb, the Qutub Minar, 73 meters high and the most curious antique, the uncorroded Iron Pillar, which dates back to the 4th century AD.

Agra – World knows Agra for the beautiful monument of The Taj Mahal – An eternal symbol of love which was built between 1631 and 1648 by the Mughal Ruler Shahjahan in the memory of his loving wife Mumtaj Mahal.

Jaipur – Is known for its Rajputana Culture, Old heritage buildings, Forts & Palace. Rajasthani colorful dresses, turbine, Block printing and vibrant colors are the other attractions.

Pushkar – Quiet and tranquil, Pushkar is a haven for tourists searching for respite. Basically, a religious town built around a lake, it has become an important destination for seasoned travelers. A Spectacular Mela, or fair takes with thousands of villagers bringing cattle, camels and horses to trade. The annual camel/cattle fair turns the haven into a riot of color. Beside the fair the only Temple of Hindu God “Brahma Ji’ is located in Pushkar.

Udaipur – Udaipur: Founded in 1599 by Maharana Udai Singh, the house of Mewar or Udaipur as it is now better known, is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountain ranges. Situated on the edge of three lakes, its narrow streets lined with shops and craftsmen’s ateliers encourage hours of window shopping for the avid tourist. The ambiance, climate and history have combined together to make Udaipur a tourist haven. Udaipur is one of the most fascinating cities of Rajasthan. Here are lakes that come as a surprise in sandy Rajasthan, and forested hills where wildlife still abounds. And in the lakes or by their edges are palaces straight out of fairy tales, each more beautiful than the other. There are rugged fortresses too – “Chittorgarh” and “Kumbhalgarh”, where the history of Udaipur is told as if it were but a page from yesterday.

Jodhpur – Jodhpur is a sprawling city, with a blend of the modern and traditional, from palaces to ethnic handicrafts. Including Jodhpur, the desert triangle combines Jaisalmer and Bikaner. The region is also ideal for camel safaris.

Jaisalmer – Deep in the heart of the Thar Desert is Jaisalmer, one of the last princely bastions in the region. Founded on what was the crossroad of lucrative trade routes, this remote settlement came to be celebrated for the velour of its rulers, and for the aesthetic sense represented by their places and havelis. The rich merchants engaged stone-craftsmen who worked with great diligence on the sandstone mansions they built, filling up facades with sculptural filigree, screen windows, delicate pavilions and beautiful balconies. These veritable art-museums are still inhabited, and their colorful celebrations and festival have placed Jaisalmer firmly on the world tourism map.

Bikaner – City is known for the 16th-century Junagarh Fort, a huge complex of ornate buildings and halls. Within the fort, the Prachina Museum displays traditional textiles and royal portraits. Bikaner is located in Rajasthan. Surrounded by the Thar Desert and east of the border with Pakistan. Bikaner is also famous for the Karni Mata Temple which is home to many rats considered sacred by Hindu devotees.

Mandana – It is part of Shekhawati region which is located in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan in India. Shekhawati means Garden of Shekha and is not a single village or town. It is large area in north eastern Rajasthan which lies between Bikaner, Jaipur and Delhi and comprises the Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts. Shekhawati today is known more for its exquisite frescoes that adorn the walls and ceilings of the building here. It is an open art gallery. No other region, anywhere in the world, has such a large concentration of frescoes. This is all the more interesting as the landscape here is totally bare - flat and colorless.
